“Brilliant Location and Friendly Staff”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

Lovely hotel with great staff. Really nice surroundings with unique rooms and great breakfast.

Hotel staff were very helpful and after a long flight from the UK it was nice to be welcomed with a cold towel and drink.

The hotel is in a busy area but that is common in Bangkok, we didn't hear any street noise from our room.

The beds are quite high, in keeping with the style of the oriental theme but comfortable.

Right in the middle of Chinatown
locale, buzz, central

We had a great stay at the Shanghai Mansion. It is right in the heart of Bangkok's Chinatown, an area which never sleeps. And it's a great base from which to explore that neighbourhood. Just what we were looking for.

Chic hotel with excellent staff
Character, breakfast, staff

Excellent. The hotel was very chic with lots of nice touches. The breakfast was lovely with a wide variety of international and thai food on offer. The hotel has a small shuttle which can take you to the major attractions. You must book this in advance. The room was nice and clean.

Artistic design with traditional Chinese flavor
Design, Cleaness, Location

The design of the hotel room has rich Chinese flavor of 1930's Shanghai. Nice and clean room and bath room. Conveniently located in Chinatown which is close to major tourist attractions. This is the place to stay if you want to experience Chinese culture in Bangkok.

Beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Chinatown
Posted 04 April 2013

Calm, serene and beautiful hotel in crazy Chinatown!
On the main road in Chinatown, close to the bustling markets and the Golden Buddha
I had a wonderful stay at the Shanghai Mansion and can't wait to go back again soon! It was completely without fault; well situated, easy to find, stunning decor and staff who went out of their way to help me out. The breakfast was delicious with a good selection of both Eastern and Western food. This will definitely be my go to hotel for future trips to Bangkok.

oasis
location, aesthetic appeal, comfort

Fabulous! Situated on the first block of Bangkok's busy Chinatown, the hotel is literally next door to the delicious riot of street food that is the focus of many foodie-tours in Bangkok. Also within easy range (a quick taxi or tuk-tuk ride, but a bit far to walk in the heat) of many of the major temples. The hotel itself is a quiet, cool, beautiful respite from the steamy chaos outside. A good place to recharge and relax in the library or by the indoor fish pond, between forays into the city. The dim sum breakfast and the nightly jazz are both delightful. The decor of the hotel is the most enchanting thing, among the many comforts.

“Stunning small hotel.”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

I stayed here for two nights in march. The hotel is in the middle of the Chinatown district of Bangkok. Which made it a perfect stop from which to explore, especially in the evenings with the many pavement food stalls selling their delicious wares. I booked into a mu LAN suite which was enormous. I don't think I have had a bigger bath tub in any other hotel in the world. The staff were attentive. The room clean with a free mini bar and breakfast was good. All this and the price was great. Will stay again.

“The most magnificent oasis we have ever encountered!!”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Our family of 7 was travelling in luxury. 5 star cruise ship, 5 star tour guides, and a number of 5 star+ hotels during our three week vacation.

The Shanghai Mansion boutique hotel in ChinaTown, Bangkok was without a doubt the most startlingly beautiful, luxurious, comfortable and just plain pampering of them all.

An absolute highlight of our trip, from the moment we ascended the escalator to the 1st floor lobby, the Shanghai Mansion did not fail in any way to impress.

The service was exemplary. The rooms were massive, and featured every luxury you could hope for. The beds were huge, the baths deep and very quick to fill.
Complimentary mini bar was a nice touch (no alcohol), and the gorgeous lounge areas scattered outside the wood paneled doors of the private rooms were just lovely.

The food, both dinner and breakfast (we didn't want to leave the hotel to eat elsewhere!!) was wonderful, and I definitely recommend a meal at Cotton Restaurant if you are staying here.

If we hadn't needed to catch our cruise ship, I would very very happily have extended our stay in Bangkok purely so that we could have enjoyed another night at the Shanghai Mansion. I truly cannot rave enough about it.

Obviously... very highly recommended!

Downtown chinatown.
1. Outside the hotel the chaos of Chinatown, restaurants, shops and the noise... 2. The silence in the hotel, helpful staff. 3. The combination of both 1 and 2

The third time I've stayed at shanghai mansion, it's has become my first choice when visiting Bangkok, not near sky train or the underground system, but the staff will make sure you get a taxi with a meter. I live in Thailand and Chinatown is a nice break from Thai food. Only a short walk to indiatown with many Indian restaurants, I am looking forward to my next visit.

Loved this hotel during our short stay in Bangkok. Didn't stay anywhere else so can't compare in this price category but this must surely be the best place to stay in Chinatown. It deserves the many boutique hotel awards it has. Staff are helpful, decor is stylish and designey, location is great for local sites and walking distance to trains and boats. Cotton Club restaurant in the hotel is good and well priced if you don't want to venture out.

“Oasis in Chinatown in the middle of bustling Bangkok”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

We were so delighted with our stay at this hotel.
Is such a lovely oasis of calm in a very noisy and busy city.
Our ground floor room was spacious, exquisitely furnished and welcoming every time we returned.
The staff are amazingly polite and cater to every whim.
Fantastic included breakfast, free wifi and mini bar.
We dined in (room service) one day and it was great and had pre dinner drinks in the bar every night.
The hotel is in the best spot to dine out with any number of great places to eat right along the street.
With fabulous boutique places like this we never want to stay in a big city hotel again.
Could not fault it on any level.

Beautifully decorated rooms in a prime location
Breakfast is fantastic; the rooms are large and beautiful

the rooms in this hotel are at their basic three-star, but they've been done up so beautifully you almost don't notice there's no carpet, but instead some mats on a concrete floor. the bed is large and extremely comfortable. the restaurant on the 3rd floor provides a buffet of guangdong/thai/western food that is extremely delicious. dinner is also reasonably price and very tasty. location is good, although i find chinatown too bustling and hot. it is great to come to the hotel, which is peaceful and well conditioned, after a day of touring.

“Love it”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

We stayed here recently for two nights. The hotel is on a busy road smack in the middle of Chinatown. Ride up from street level by elevator and relax in the quiet calm. You will be greeted with a cold cloth and lovely tea. Furnishings and decor are gorgeous. Service is unobtrusive, but there when needed. Rooms are dark and quiet in a romantic way.

We stayed with our two kids and mother-in-law. Not sure what we would have done without her as one kid stayed in her room. Our kids are in-between ages - too big for everyone in the bed, but too young to have their own room. Maybe they have a family-size room? I will definitely check next time I go to Bangkok as I would love to return here.

Gem of a hotel. Excellent service.
Colorful decor, sweet smelling, a bed the size of a small island.

After wandering around Chinatown for hours in the sweltering heat, when we finally located this hotel, we were quickly whisked upstairs to reception, a cool space scented with peppermint. After recovering on a lovely couch with a cup of tea and refreshing washcloth, we were efficiently checked in and shown to our room. Lovely, colorful, clean room with a great big bed the size of a small island. Awesome service from all staff. Various locations throughout hotel for sitting and relaxing. Good access (walking) to river. Not too far from subway and river taxi's. Very pleasant all around. Shanghai Mansion is a slice of tranquility amidst the chaos of Chinatown, Bangkok.

Lovely Hotel with Great Style and Service
Unique, Stylish, Hospitable, Friendly, Accomodating

My boyfriend and I chose Shanghai Mansion for it's unique look and it's location. Not only is it in the middle of China Town, but it is also not far from the ferry and train station. This made it a great base camp to see the sights of Bangkok and other areas of Thailand. Bangkok is a crazy city, but once inside the Shanghai Mansion the surroundings are calming and zen. The fresh scent of the hotel contrasted greatly with the not so good smells on the street. Very refreshing! We were enjoyed our stay there very much. The service was great! As soon as we walked in the door, we were immediately greeted, relieved of our belongings, and given tea. The staff was polite, friendly, and very helpful. The breakfast included in our stay was good and there were many different options to choose from. We would highly recommend staying at the Shanghai Mansion. It's a cool place to check out and you will enjoy your stay!

This is truly a great place to stay! Most definitely my favourite hotel in Asia!

The first time I visited I was meeting my son and then going off on a motorcycle tour of Vietnam. I turned up tired, very wet and laden with a back pack! The staff were amazing! They virtually carried me in, sat me down with a welcome drink and hot and cold towels without even worrying if I had a reservation!

Nothing has changed since then. Top rate service with a smile, excellent food, rooms superb and amazing value for money.

The Shanghai Mansion is truly a pearl! It's location is perfect, right on the edge of Chinatown. The hotel shuttle can take you to most of the major sites if you plan it right. Down the steps and onto the street and you are straight away into the hustle and bustle of, for me, Bangkok's best area.

Highly recommended to all travellers.

Unique room decor and big bathtub

This hotel is located in the centre of Bangkok's Chinatown. Its main entrance blend into its surrounding - old prewar shop houses, noisy street, Bangkok's infamous traffic jam, etc... But once you step into the hotel's entrance you will be in another world, so to speak. The decor is chic and tranquil ambience. The room was clean, tastefully furnished and came with a big bathtub, bigger than those usually found in business-class hotel.

I really enjoy staying at this hotel. It has such a nice vibe, true character & is a visual delight. It's no wonder that people pay just to have their wedding photos done here.
It has an excellent Chinatown location so you can walk out the door at any time of day or night and have something to do. Markets are everywhere you turn, food stalls pop up from nowhere and when you're done eating, shopping & exploring the alleys, Shanghai Mansion envelopes you back into it's chic 1920s web.
The Peony Suite is a large room with polished concrete floors, super oversized bed, oriental day bed, large bath & shower. Ours opened onto the fish pool foyer that you can sit around when the mood takes you.
The breakfasts are an extensively stocked buffet with Asian & Western options. This space serves food throughout the day and turns into a jazz club in the evening. Great for a relaxing drink with some tunes.
The hotels service & atmosphere here more than makes up for the fact that it doesn't have a pool.
Make sure when staying here that you take the time to walk around all the levels to observe all it has to offer.

I have stayed in many Bangkok hotels from the Shangri La to the Sri Krung near Hua Lamphong railway station (opposite ends of the extreme). However for location, service and value for money, this little gem in the heart of Chinatown takes the biscuit! I would recommend it without hesitation.

Guest Review Stunning! Best kept secret in Bangkok
Location, classy, serene, elegant,

This is my 6th time at the Shanghai Mansion so I clearly love it! I know often get an upgrade to a suite which is absolutely beautiful. The staff know your name and acknowledge you with a smile. It is so beautiful and well priced. I find the bigger chain hotels quite cold and unwelcoming. Shanghai Mansion is a haven amongst the craziness of Chinatown. The food OMG is incredible. Chinatown is a foodies heaven. Don't be afraid to try everything on the street. There are quite often photo shoots at Shanghai Mansion it really is that stunning. The suites are worth the extra dollars. The bathtub is big enough to swim in. I also did a cooking lesson at The hotel and it was great. I was the only person so it was 1 on 1 and great fun, no I can take the food home with me!

Guest Review Excellent Location!
Excellent location in the heart of China Town.

China Town comes alive at night with restaurants and food carts popping up all around and this hotel is right in the middle of everything.

Guest Review “Still my favourite Haven of Peace in Bangkok”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

Once again, back in Bangkok. And once again, what makes the mad restlessness of this metropolis bearable is the tranquillity in peace that reigns once you've entered this hotel. Much could be written about the comfort of the rooms, the elegance of the furnishings, the fact that the minibar is complimentary, also the small details such as the shower gel, shampoos and lotions being supplied in refillable containers, but in effect, what is really striking is the fact, that even after a two-year hiatus, you find many of the same members of staff still working at Shanghai Mansions with the same kind of efficiency, but more importantly with the same unflagging friendliness. Looking back on our last couple of stays, we began and ended a trip to Laos in Bangkok, I felt that this was more of a home and less of the hotel. Being welcomed at the door and the reception, being greeted in the morning before sampling the delights of the breakfast buffet (which covers the spectrum from European my American to an Asian breakfast), for sitting in the bar for a drink in the evening and listening to the excellent offerings of local jazz musicians, it is always the staff that make this place what it is. I still feel uncomfortable in the vastness of Bangkok, I still feel incredibly well looked after and cared for by the people at Shanghai Mansions.

“Great boutique hotel”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

Enjoyable two-night stay in this hotel. The MRT station that was within walking distance made the
Chinatown location convenient. The entrance is quite inconspicuous though, overshadowed by the
neon-lit signages of the surrounding restaurants. One of the taxis that brought me back had to go a
second round on the one way road to stop at the right spot. If you are a Chinese cuisine foodie, you
are located in paradise here, with the long stretch of Chinatown's restaurants and street food sellers
all at your doorstep or within a few steps away. Very nice general manager who is very hands on and
always seems to be in and around the hotel. One morning, I saw her outside the hotel waiting - in a
daily practice - to give food to a monk; an act that brings good karma and fortune to the hotel, its staff,
guests, their families, etc.

COTTON REVIEW:

“Chinatown elegance”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Good food, excellent service, reasonably priced restaurant situated within The Shanghai Mansion Hotel.
The menu was mostly Thai food but there was plenty of choice for the majority of palates. A live jazz bad
played some nights and created a relaxed and chilled out atmosphere. There was no rush from the staff
for guests to finish their meal, so we were able to linger over our food and were able to soak up the
atmosphere and ambience of old Chinatown.

“Old fashioned style in modern Chinatown”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

I LOVED the Shanghai Mansion Hotel! Everything about it appealed to me- the decor, the elegance,
the ambience and the location. I had a room on the fourth floor at the front of the hotel, where the hustle
and bustle of daily living in Chinatown could be seen and observed from sun up to sun down. My room
was clean and very comfortable, spacious, furnished in traditional style with silk cushions, lacquered
furniture and modern amenities. Our room had tea and coffee making facilities, a flat screen TV and
complimentary mini bar. FABULOUS! The shared areas of the hotel were luxurious and invited guests to
explore the Interior of the hotel further.

The staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. The breakfasts
were BIG and of excellent quality as were the evening meals. We were right in the centre of Chinatown
where we could absorb the atmosphere and easily access the night markets, street cafes, river, local
attractions and the bars. I thought The Shanghai Mansion offered good value for money, and I wouldn't
hesitate to stay here again.

“Cosy hotel with friendly staff in the center of BKK”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

Shanghai Mansion is a very nice hotel just in the center of China Town. The rooms are beautifully decorated in ancient Chinese style. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good with lots of choices from Chinese to Thai to Western styles of food including fruit juices, fresh fruit, coffee and tea etc. etc. The minibar is to be used for free (non alcoholic drinks and cookies). At our arrival, we received a fruit basket. To be highly recommended.
